mekong

monsters

This project occurred as part of the Mekong Art Worms Collective second arts-based research trip investigating socio-environmental issues experienced by more-than-human communities along the Mekong River. Students from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang spent a day collecting trash in a particularly polluted area of the river in Nong Khai province. In the second part of the workshop, students completed a trash audit to determine which trash items and brands were present, followed by the washing and sorting of the trash by color. During the third workshop, the resident artist-researchers and the students created “Mekong Monsters” from the trash, which included bacteria, spirits, bees, bugs, river critters, and surveillance technology objects.
